To get the app, make sure you're on OS X Yosemite and have the latest updates installed. It was slow, buggy, and rarely updated. Thankfully, Photos for Mac is none of these things and is actually a great photo editing app for most people. However, professionals will want to look elsewhere. Photos for Mac distills iPhoto's features down to the ones that matter and improves on simple editing tools. Photos can be as idiot-proof as you'd like or you can dig into more advanced settings to get the results you want.
There's an auto-enhance tool as well as an auto-crop tool that analyzes your photos for horizons and straightens them. This feature makes bulk edits for photos a breeze. There's also sliders for adjusting lighting, which adjusts many settings hidden from the user. If you want to tweak this automation, you can with the drop down menu. You can also choose a range of photos by clicking the first one, holding down the Shift key, and then clicking the last one in the range. When you want to download your iCloud photos to your computer, you have these simple options.
Which one will you be using? Using the iCloud. Choose Enhance to improve your photo with just a click. Then use a filter to give it a new look. Markup lets you add text, shapes, sketches, or a signature to your images. And you can turn Live Photos into fun, short video loops to share. You can also make edits to photos using third-party app extensions like Pixelmator, or edit a photo in an app like Photoshop and save your changes to your Photos library.
Bring even more life to your Live Photos. When you edit a Live Photo, the Loop effect can turn it into a continuous looping video that you can experience again and again. Try Bounce to play the action forward and backward. You can also trim, mute, and select a key photo for each Live Photo. With just a click, you can apply one of nine photo filters inspired by classic photography styles to your photos.
Or send photos to your favorite photo sharing destinations, such as Facebook and Twitter. And since your collection is organized the same way across your Apple devices, navigating your library always feels familiar. Make an edit here, see it there. When you make changes on your Mac like editing a photo, marking a Favorite, or adding to an album, they're kept up to date on your iPhone, your iPad, and iCloud. And vice versa -- any changes made on your iOS devices are automatically reflected on your Mac.
Fill your library, not your device. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud -- and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 2TB. You've spent years capturing moments worth remembering. Now Photos can automatically turn them into unforgettable experiences called Memories -- shareable collections of your best photos -- based on people, places, holidays, and more.
The Photos app uses Moments, Collections, and Years views to organize your photos and videos by when and where they were taken. With People, you get powerful face recognition capabilities that group photos by person.
Places lets you see all your photos on a beautiful world map. And now you can even search for photos by what's in them, like strawberries, sunsets, and surfboards.
Create standout photos with a comprehensive set of powerful but easy-to-use editing tools. Choose Enhance to improve your photo with just a click. Use a filter to instantly give it a new look. Or use Smart Sliders to quickly edit like a pro even if you're a beginner.
With Markup, you can add text, shapes, sketches, or a signature to your images. Or send photos to your favorite photo sharing destinations, such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also customize the menu and share directly to other compatible sites that offer sharing extensions. Why is this so hard to do? Do the programmers ever even use their stuff?
Seemed to be working great at first. Spent hours transferring over images from my wifes iPhone just to realize that none of the videos work. Since they are mixed amongst the phots this is just a huge mess.
Between the poor image capture tht wouldnt transfer anything and this app that doesnt properly transer it is a nightmare. I always thought MAC was user freindly. Thought wrong.
